Garmin Asus M10 the World’s First “ Smart³ ” Phone Launches in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, 25 March 2010 – The much anticipated Garmin Asus phone was launched earlier today in the presence of Malaysian press and public. Called the Garmin Asus M10, it is the world’s first “Smart3” phone; encompassing a phone, powerful GPS navigation device & social media tool – all in one slim, ergonomic and stylish package, underlining the principles of Smart Phone, Smart Navigation & Smart Lifestyle.

Smart Phone
The M10 is powered by Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Professional, essentially making it a mobile computer that fits into one’s pocket. Browsing the Internet, streaming videos, playing games, emailing, creating documents and many more capabilities are readily available at just a touch of the finger-friendly 3.5-inch screen. The M10 can also be synched to Microsoft Exchange so that appointments, contacts and emails are consistently and intuitively available to a user. Whether for work or personal usage, the M10 allows one to be perpetually connected on 3G, EDGE or GSM network on top of its HSDPA wireless connectivity and WLAN (802.11 b+g) capability.

Smart Navigation
The M10 is comparable to a dedicated GPS device such as Garmin 1460 PND, giving you the ability to go wherever you desire without getting lost and losing precious time. Supported by the advanced Garmin GPS navigation technology, even in undesirable weather conditions, the M10 has an impressive time to first fix (TTFT) of 33 seconds, which is its timeframe to acquire a satellite lock; a very useful feature for people who are constantly on the go.

With its impressive 800 x 480 WVGA display, the M10 ensures a clear and precise view of maps and information such as speed, directions and estimated time of arrival. It also has a Junction View and Lane Assist feature, which realistically displays approaching exits and road signs, an advantage for users navigating on roads with sometimes confusing exit ramps. A specially designed car kit is also available separately for an exceptionally smooth travelling experience.

Smart Lifestyle
With social media features like MSN Messenger, Facebook widget, Youtube widget & Picasa Uploader, you can easily update social network with real-time information such as locations, statuses as well as pictures and videos captured with the 5 mega-pixels camera. For the jet-setting individuals, tedious traveling preparation will become a thing of the past as the M10 has real time connected services such as Ciao!, Weather and Flight. The Garmin Asus M10 has a 4GB on-board memory, which is expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card for multimedia files and more, ensuring entertainment like music and videos are always available.

According to Mr. Andy Chen, Regional Director of ASUS’ South East Asia for Handheld, “The Garmin Asus M10 is a breakthrough in the pursuit of connectivity, where communication & networking now easily transcend across virtual and real existence through just one device”.

“It is the world’s first “Smart3” phone. “Smart3”, a term coined by the brilliant engineers behind the M10. “Smart3” aptly describe the M10 as the gateway to Smart Phone, Smart Navigation & Smart Lifestyle. I am proud to mention that Asus is the first company in Malaysia with a handheld device running on Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Professional. This WinMo operating system gives M10 impeccable responsiveness as well as a cleaner, sleeker and very intuitive user interface”, he added.

“Windows phones move seamlessly from work to play, creating new experiences through a variety of hardware, applications and services,” said Yap Chun Wei, Microsoft Malaysia’s Mobility Program Manager.

“We are pleased to work closely with Garmin-Asus to bring to market Windows phones based on the latest version of Windows phone today and look forward to our work bringing more Windows phones to market in the future”, added Yap.

Running on 512 RAM with 512 ROM and equipped with a class leading 1500 mAh battery, users are ensured of hours of uninterrupted usage as well as navigation.
