Connected Services
- What are the Connected Services on the nüvifone G60?

The nüvifone features a set of connected services that make use of location and a connection to data. These services give you more up to date information about a particular location than what is pre-loaded to the device. These services are split into Basic and Premium services. Premium Services will be available as a 30-day free trial and will need to be purchased through a myGarmin account or included through your carrier after that. Not all services will be available in all areas or countries. Here is a list of potential services available:
Basic Services – These services are included on all phones, but still require a data connection:
- Google Local
- Weather
- Ciao!
- Flight Status
- Currency Converter
Premium Services – Access to these services requires a premium subscription and a data connection:
- Traffic
- Safety Camera
- Gas Prices
- White Pages
- Upcoming Events
- Movie Times
Many of the Location Based services are found in the Search menu.
- How do I update the Currency Converter?

The G60 has a built in conversion program, and one of the types of units you can convert is currency. Since currency conversion rates are constantly changing, you can update your conversion rates for more accurate information.

- Make sure Currency is selected by using the button after Convert
- Touch the options button
- Touch Update Rates
Note: As a connected service, you will need to have an active data connection in order to update the currency converter.
Phone Settings
- How do I setup Wi-Fi?

The G60 has a Wi-fi setting to use as an internet browsing option instead of cell phone towers. In some cases, Wi-fi will provide faster internet speeds than using a cell phone signal.
To initiate this feature:
- Touch Setup
- Touch System
- Touch Wi-fi
- Turn Wi-fi On
- Select desired network
- Enter pass codes if requested
The phone will now use the Wi-fi connection until disconnected from the network or leaving the reception area.
- How do I setup Bluetooth®?

It is possible to connect the nüvifone to most Bluetooth® devices such as a Bluetooth® headset or stereo Bluetooth® headphones.
To initiate this feature:
- Touch Setup
- Touch System
- Touch Bluetooth®
- Turn Bluetooth® On
- Touch Add Device
- Select desired device from list
- Enter pass codes if requested
The nüvifone is now connected to the Bluetooth® device and ready for use. You can set up pairings for many devices, but can only connect up to two devices to the nüvifone at any given time.
- How do I enable GPS?

The nüvifone G60 may disable the GPS function if you are in a location unable to receive GPS signal such as an office building or underground.
To initiate this feature:

- Touch GPS Simulator
- Touch On
- Touch OK
Option 2
- Turn phone off
- Turn phone on
It will now be possible to search for location-based services once the phone locates satellites.
- How do I Setup e-mail?

E-mail is synchronized with your phone over a data connection, and cannot be transferred over USB using Garmin Sync. It is possible to monitor multiple e-mail accounts on the nüvifone G60. The nüvifone G60 supports most web mail accounts, but does not support Microsoft Exchange mail.
To initiate this feature:

- Enter required information to configure account
The nüvifone G60 is now setup to receive and send e-mails. The nüvifone G60 will automatically guess the required settings for your email account. If it is not able to tell what type of email service your address uses, you will need to specify POP3 or IMAP. Please contact your email provider to find out which type they use.
- How do I check software versions on nüvifone G60?

- How do I register my nüvifone?

Garmin recommends registering the nüvifone as part of initial startup. It is necessary for the device to be registered before using Ciao!, purchasing premium content or map updates. Customers may register the phone at any time directly on the phone or via computer.
Customers may register during boot up or by trying to access any feature that requires registration in order to function. Steps for registering at startup are shown below.
- Touch Register to access myGarmin and register product
- Sign in to your existing myGarmin account username and password or select create new account if none exists.
- Enter all requested information and touch Register.
- A text message with a link to complete registration will arrive shortly after selecting Register. If a customer elects not to receive a text message, it will be necessary to contact customer support to complete registration. Touch View to bring up the registration link.
- Click on the highlighted link to complete registration.
- The nüvifone is now registered and ready to use.
Registration collects not only customer information, but details such as IMEI, Unit ID and SIM card information to aid in location-based services and updates to firmware and mapping.

- What is Ciao?

Ciao! allows friends of your choice to see where you are via real-time geographic location information. This information is collected by Ciao! from your nüvifone and distributed to other location-aware social networks. You control when and to whom your location is disclosed by managing the settings from within the Ciao! application and on the third party network applications. You can select to enable automatic location updates, or to manually disclose your location. You may terminate this service by selecting the Disable Ciao! Option on the Ciao! Privacy Page menu.
- How do I invite friends?

Inviting friends is a great way to stay connected. Friends will see status updates and be able to find you whenever Ciao! is active.
- Touch Ciao!
- Touch Invite
- Touch Enter Phone #
- Touch Country if needed
- Touch Send Invitation
- Select the network you friend is using.
If your friend is using a nüvifone with Ciao!, you may select any network on the list. Your friend will immediately show up in your list as "Invited." Once the friend accepts your invitation, they become a trusted friend, and you will be able to stay connected with updates.
- How do I check a friend's location or status update?

When you open Ciao!, you will see a list of your friends. If they are trusted friends, it will their name, status, and distance from you. Otherwise, it will show their status as invited or pending. Touch on any one of your trusted friends will bring up the following:
- Name
- Status
- Nearest Address
- Which network they are using
- Option to view on Map
- Option to set as destination (Go)
- How do I hide my location?

There may be times when you do not want others to know your location. It is possible to disable location information in Ciao! Using the following steps:
- Touch Ciao!
- Touch Options
- Touch Hide
You position will not show until following the above steps and selecting
- What social networking services are compatible?
- Currently Ciao! works with Buddy Beacon, GyPSii and Brightkite. Ciao! will send your information to these networks, as well as allow you to become friends with their users to receive their information. Other networks may be added to Ciao! in the future.
- How do you change GPS location refresh rate?

It is possible to specify if Ciao! sends updates automatically or only when you want to send updates.

Please note that automatic mode does not offer the ability to adjust how frequently an update is sent.
- How do I set status updates?

Status updates allow you enter a message that friends will see when they check your information in Ciao!. Status can be updated in the following location.
- Touch Ciao!
- Touch My Details
- Touch Change Status
- Edit the status message and touch done.
Friends will see your latest update along with location.
- How much data does Ciao! use?

Data usage will vary based on several factors. Some of the factors are:
- Refresh rate
- Status information
- Number of friends connected
All Ciao! updates are sent via a data connection. Ciao! will not send your info or download your friends' info without a data connection.
Garmin Sync
- What is Garmin Sync?

Garmin Sync is an application that allows for the synchronization of your contacts and calendar between Outlook on your computer and your nüvifone. Garmin Sync works over USB.
- How do I use Garmin Sync?

- Download Garmin Sync from the Garmin-Asus website.
- Connect your nüvifone to your computer, when it asks if you would like to enter mass storage mode, select no.
- Next touch Tools
- Touch the option labeled Synchronize
- When Synchronization is complete touch the Back arrow to the main screen
- After touching synchronize you will see it start the connection to your computer
You can now view your contacts and calendar items from Outlook on your phone.
